Job Summary
Shelter is a basic human need. A house becomes a home. And a home creates hope for a better future. An affordable, decent place to live is the cornerstone of success for people and families with low and moderate incomes. And the need has never been greater to create and preserve affordable housing in communities across America. Enterprise Community Partners, Inc., is looking for a passionate, bold, strategic writer to help Enterprise secure much needed funding to create affordable housing and ultimately help people transform their lives.

While it would be helpful for the candidate to have knowledge of the affordable housing and community development industry, it is not a requirement. What is a requirement is having a true passion for doing well by doing good and being a champion for Enterprise’s cause, and ultimately for the communities Enterprise serves. Expanding the funder base and entering new funder category types are key areas of focus. The candidate must inspire existing funders and motivate new prospects, without losing sight of Enterprise’s core base of supporters.

The primary responsibilities of this critical writing position include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities. Previous experience must demonstrate a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.
Job Responsibilities
• Through interviews and other means, gather information that will easily allow him/her to grasp the concept of a project or program for which funding is sought as defined by the person responsible for carrying it out.
• Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the organization, and use that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all projects and programs for which grants will be sought and to recommend the seeking of grants.
• Compile, write, and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
• Review the budget of a project or program for which funding is sought and make recommendations to better present it to grant-making organizations.
• Develop individual grant proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization's preferences and follow exactly each grant-making organization's guidelines.
• Keep in contact as appropriate with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
• Write and manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.
• Write reports to government, foundations and other funders.
• Act as liaison with program staff.
• Engage with program officers at organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
• Work closely with Marketing & Communications team to ensure message and “organizational voice” consistency.
• Complete and support other special projects, including donor recognition and executive correspondence, as needed and as assigned.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree and at least three (3) years of directly relevant experience and/or four (4) years generally related experience. Graduate degree with technical expertise may be substituted for experience.
• Grants Certification preferred
• Ability to respond quickly to market changes
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; tact and a positive demeanor.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with leaders and represent Enterprise to potential external partners
• Financial management skills associated with planning, budgeting and control of resources.
• Proficient computer skills with functionality of the MS Office Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• The candidate must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, able to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
• Must possess the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals.
• Results-oriented with a keen understanding of the steps necessary to achieve goals by deadlines
